If I get VLSI in IIT Bombay/madras that is equivalent to getting a good PSU job for me.

I recall what my friend told who cracked iocl with a double digit rank in Gateโ€ฆ After working my โ– โ– โ–  off all I do is count literally thousands of cylinders day in and day out in some remote location of Assamโ€ฆ
Not everyone would have a similar experience but PSU craze is fading really fast this is true

But end of the day its all a personal choice and context changes depending on a lot of factorsโ€ฆ
Yes many people are having a quite chilled out life in PSUsโ€ฆ For instance sometime working with NHPC with a government bungalow in Himachal or uttarakhandโ€ฆ Thatโ€™s a dream life literally

Life Update ( A long post )

Life has been really tough and confusing when I was not allowed to pursue CDS. The only thing I am proud of these days is that I lost 10 Kg in 1 month. Idk physically exerting myself is kind of thing I like in general. So thats why I need some job that suits with that trait. Military was a perfect answer for that. Apart from sacrificing your life , Its a central Govt job with the highest perks compared to other central Govt job.

Now back to GATE , these days I am just doing it only for the sake of not wasting the money my parents spent there for coaching. And also another reason probably might be that I have an obnoxious relative whose children got good score for GATE and she will tell me " Nah , My daughter had a hard time clearing GATE , Do u think u really gonna get that " . These kind of dialogue trigger me and might be a source of motivation to get into GATE initially. But with lectures piling up and not having passion towards GATE in general drains my motivation soon.

Why I think GATE is such a headache ? U see I got into a M.tech in a private college. My parents have already paid the money so my seat is secured there. Also GATE can be expected on Feb 2025. So assume If I clear GATE , should I start M.tech in NITโ€™s or IITโ€™s by dropping my current M.tech here ?

Also I can give only a full mode prepration for GATE till August. Once M.tech starts , I need to spent a lot of time studying it. No brainer , M.tech will be tougher than B.tech. I spent average 8 hrs for my last semester for B.tech. I am not sure if I will be able to pursue GATE once M.tech starts.

So I cannot expect a PSU with least amount of prepration. And I am taking an internship to get into a private company. WTH ? Why I am taking an internship to get into a private company if I am taking M.tech anyway. I have spent a lot of money there . Why ? Whats the point in studying GATE these days ? Thrown a bulk of money for a recreational activity till July ?

I really start to question my own decisions ( Or my parents decision ). Dont get me wrong I am very ambitious man in general. I really want to get my family out of middle class trap. It hurts me when I see my parents discussing on money spent and money saved at the end of the month. They are discussing all those thing in my absence so that I need not feel the pressure associated with that. But as an adult , Now I started to realise these things. I want to get rid of that. Get some bulk amount of money so that my parents dont break a sweat regarding this.

Also my parents are getting physically frail , I need to be a shoulder for them. But getting a regular job is difficult these days. For context , there is a thing called " recession " where the probabilty of getting a job is greatly reduced. This happened in 2009-10 during IT bloom in India and now this takes place due to AI.

So thats all my problems I am facing these days. If someone can advice me with this , I am very grateful. Otherwise , If u have read this whole post , Congratulations u have a very good attention spans. Social media addicts dont have this attention span to read my whole post. Take this candy :candy: . This candy will kill your PMO addiction and boost your No fap streak to 1000 days.

I will come after thousand days thanking you for the Candy :candy:

In all honesty, you know better than your parents. However good they may think of your future there is limitation to their knowledge because they havenโ€™t practiced that field themselves. Scenarios have changed, itโ€™s not like the old times.

In all this, you canโ€™t blame your parents. Explain them with patience what you think is right. I am sure they will listen. If you think doing an M.Tech wonโ€™t be any good since itโ€™s alot expensive, then pull out, go with GATE and get a good PSU. Focus on one thing. As you said you will get IIT or NIT if you do good in GATE. I donโ€™t see any loss in that.

If you believe you can do good in GATE, I really think thatโ€™s a good option. This is my personal opinion on this matter.

If you have any other plan, like complete shift to something else, then introspect.

P.S. Internships are good, they will add to your CV even if you donโ€™t get a Job right now.

I know, in these times of uncertainties, itโ€™s really hard to know what will be right in the long Run, but do make decisions with Logic. โ€œMn to kabhi bhi kahi bha jata haiโ€ Logic is absolute. You wonโ€™t regret making decisions out of it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for that edited post man.

I will look into that angle. But its gonna be tough decision tbh. Because again a good amount of money has been spent to get into that private college. Now quitting that for a full time GATE prepration will be a ballsy move.

Or I am thinking to continue M.tech in that private college and fully abandon GATE.

A Lil bit yapping here but I had humanities in 12th. Scored pretty good to get St. Stephenโ€™s but I choose business administration, completely different field, no idea for the first year of what I was learning, but by the end I am at overall 9.4 CGPA. Now, I am shifting to Quantitive Finance which is a stem field. No Idea how much hard things will be with this field but you know I really feel like โ€œEverything works out for the Good in the Endโ€.

Important part:
โ€œNo matter what you choose, just be the best at it. Donโ€™t regret your decisions ever. Everything works out for good. Just work hard that your decisions alway turn into Good ones. Godspeed.โ€

Why did you fully abandon GATE ?

Well yes and no at the same time. I do attend 2-3 lectures these days. And planning to continue till August. But once I start with M.tech I am afraid I might to able to continue like that.

Itโ€™s because of overhyping the jobs, salaries and such things. When i decided to choose a career I was pretty enthusiastic over time after reading comments and videos of some utubers. But the reality is something disparate. Iam really at the point of โ€˜Am i rightโ€™ to choose this side. As I have been preparing for banking specifically Po exams and having a thought to prepare for Rbi exam.

Are u writing ibps or writing exams that are specific to a particular bank ?

Must be something of tough competition since the girl sitting next to me in Library said the same exact thing- โ€œPreparing for bank po, will try for RBIโ€. I saw the quants question of your exams are not difficult but the time duration given makes it hard to clear
.
Itโ€™s tougher than the GMAT to be honest, which gets you into prestigious universities abroad.

We are the most earning individuals in USA. We have the capacity but we donโ€™t get opportunity in our own country. Just think if we could tap into it correctly how much we could develop.

I have realised one thing, Indian students are hardworking but in India their hardwork is not payed enough. Either they leave India, or work in sub par pay except if someone has already established business. India is a whole training ground for people of Middle and lower income levels and even after training they are treated as servants. Plus, The government is incompetent, the previous economic structures are flawed and the infrastructure is unsustainable and unorganised. We are the generation in between a transformation, the ones who will cover the wealth gap of a big middle class portion of India that lies between a India who was once developing and a India who will be semi-developed. So, itโ€™s the most tough competition for us and no one is gonna remember our contribution. :skull:

And other thing , I would like to add is that Indian Education System is absolute trash. I once read in an IAS magazine that India lies like 65-80th ( Dont remember exactly ) as per educational quality in 2022.

So what we learn here dont value much in outside countries. Hence its tough for us to get a job. They teach u Management subjects ( There are like 2-3 management subjects in B.tech ) but dont teach u to run a startup. As an electronics engineer , I was taught with a lot of circuits and processors and all but many of the students in my class dont know to repair a fan.

But once we get a job outside India , we will thrive a lot. My dad had a hard time getting a job in Qatar a few years ago but once he got a job , he said he was performing very well.

I will tell the lores to my kids dw.

Imagine earning less than pakorewala, rickshaw wala, chai wala after doing bachelors from stem field. Tho I agree, the growth is stagnant in the occupations I described earlier.

Bunch of NPCs tbh. They havenโ€™t got good education, are not flexible in their thought process, are dishonest people.

But I do appreciate the fact that the govt jobs are only given to deserving candidates.

Tbh itโ€™s fine to do anything. As I come from lower to middle class fam and also studied in arts stream , it seems delightful to join anything for my later career.

Are u talking about rbi Or po exam

Both of them, the questions are simple but the time duration makes its hard as much as I have seen. Itโ€™s more extensive than what I have prepared for.

Its so true. I donโ€™t mind they earn good but we all should. :skull:
