So Iโ€™ve made up my mind , What I wanna do with my life. Iโ€™ve decided Iโ€™ll choose AFA ( Indian Airforce Academy ) through CDS ( Combined Defences Academy , an exam to get into Indian Military after Graduation ).

For anyone looking for that Iโ€™ll mention it in brief. You have 2 tests , A written examination wihich test your english , mathematics , history , current affairs and logical resoning. All are based on what we have leant on 12th , so its generally easy.

Then we have Interveiw , which test our knowledge regarding avaiation vehicle ( Since I am taking AFA ) , our leadership and communication skills etc.

After passing these tests , there is a physical tests like Mountain climbing ( Not literally mountain ) , pushup , pullup. I can confident with pushups ( PR 48 reps in one set , I believe its okay for that to pass that ) , But I am very bad at pull upsbecause of my weights. My tricep muscles are not so good. Planning to take a personal training for 3 months in the gym.

After passing that , then weโ€™ll have a health checkup for 5 consecutive days to know whether we have any inherent diseases , disability etc. Then we can join afa and there is a training for 18 months at Telengana and then you will be appointed as Lieutenant in Indian Airforce. So once I get a job , its not possible to use phone those days.

Advantage of Joining Indian Military ( From a surface level )

  1. High Salary - As a Lieutenant , You will get a salary about 1 lakh from the start

  2. Quick Promotions ( and hence quick salary hike ) - You can reach the role of a captain by 10 years and you will have a salary like 2 - 2.5 lakhs

  3. PMO is not even an option - You dont have time to even think about PMO. Even you get some thoughts , you are helpless , you dont have phone with you.

  4. Respected in Society

  5. A sense of value and purpose

  6. Discipline at its peak

  7. Get equipped with latest warfare technologies ( If you get through CDS )

Limitations of Joining Indian Military ( From a Surface Level )

  1. Less contact with the outside worlds - You live in camps and can only get out of the camp for leave.

  2. You sacrifice your life

  3. Less contact with family and relatives.

I have a college mate who got into Navy for CDS , she said if you just stare at the advantages of this , It is less likely you wll get it. It requires dedication on an another level.

CDS can be applied till 1st on June on UPSC official website and the exam is on 1st Sept.

Pre-Requisites to qualify CDS

  1. Good Knowledge about English Grammar , Maths , History , Current Affairs and Logical Reasoning

  2. Fit Body - Doesnt expect you to have 6 pack and all , just make sure u have a healthy body and good at exercises mentioned at AFA official website

  3. Healthy Diet and Good Sleep - To prevent yourself from diseases for health checkup

  4. Communication and Leadership skills for Interveiw

I just wrote this to be accountable on my journey and to remind myself of the things I must focus on. Iโ€™ll write more about my actionable steps on my later posts to keep myself accountable.

So that all , Not sure you gonna read this long post , If anyone read this Congrats you have a good attention span. A much greater attention span than normal people having roughly 0.7 sec which is lesser than a fish.

Itโ€™s good that you are joining military also share the results and can you tell me more about physical requirement for this test like how much height and weight someone needs to pass I just want to know although I can do Google but thereโ€™s a difference between asking a real cadet and knowing information on Google that we donโ€™t even know how old is that information in the end I know I canโ€™t join military as I am now from when I was a kid I want to join in millitary but my eyes is not with me I have myopia from 3 year also I donโ€™t use Glasses cause after putting them there is no chance of getting healed naturally many people think itโ€™s a bullshit if you donโ€™t put glasses then you will become blind but I believe if our lifestyle can destroy our eyes then they can heal them also .

I am searching about this exam since few months but I guess I donโ€™t have that much desire to sacrifice my normal peaceful life, tho that doesnโ€™t mean I donโ€™t try to improve myself on a consistent basis.

But this military requires sacrifice of a different dimension altogether.

All are mentioned in their official website where u can download a 90 page book. I dont remember exactly but I think minimum weight and height is roughly 56 Kg and 150 cm for a 16 yr old man. Dont worry about that tho. More importantly make sure u have a BMI between 24 and 26.

It depends on the position u are choosing. Since I am looking for AFA , Iโ€™ve only looked into that. You can look for army and navy eligibility criteria in a book Iโ€™ve mentioned earlier.

For AFA , You have flying duty ( people who fly the aircraft and directly face the warfront ) and ground duty ( deal with technical aspects of the aircraft. Requre CDS or NDA 4 years of training ) . The former one requres u to have power less than 1.25 D and latter 3.5 D.

There is an app called eyeX on playstore which gives u some good exercise for your eyes. I was practising those exercise for 6 months straight and my power lowered from 1.5 to 1.25. Its a very slow process but its possible. Other factors are equally important like less screen time , eating and sleeping healthy etc.

I appreciate your opinion. But there are safer options too. I am looking for a technical assistant job there. All I do is to provide effective communication between pilots and between pilots and base station. All is do is sit in the office and developing communication system like that. I need not directly face the warfront. All I do is sit in the office and do these things.

But u are been physically trained like normal soldiers too. If someone infiltrates in the office , You should be in a position to get into a combat. So weapon training is also provided. But unlike earlier wars are quite rare these days. So thats my point.

Thatโ€™s why military is one of my favourite professions because they are going to help us building ourselves and they will teach us Discipline while giving salary with fulfilling all our needs in the camp but the price we need to give is not easy to give we need to give our life in exchange obviously you arenโ€™t going to die itโ€™s just that if any situation come we need to be prepared mentally to face the consequences most of the Time our own families stop us from joining service but they need to understand if no one will stand for who will protect us. Thatโ€™s it for Today lecture . Thanks for recommending the app I will sure download it as for eligibility criteria book I will also read that Thanks again  take it itโ€™s my like.

This is one of the post that I have been wishing to write for past 2 weeks. Why I was reluctant to write this ? Well , who loves a failure. And why am I writing this ? because I need your help.

I will keep it short. I was at my peak of discipline , full of vitality , purpose a month ago. The CDS thing was one of the biggest motivating factors for existence. No fap was not even a concern for me. Then this happened , my mom shared my goal with a random friend of her . She gave some stupid advices that made my mom anxious and stuff.

Then my mom said to stop pursuing my dream of CDS . I was like " Are u kidding " . Then big verbal clash happened. My mom fainted in between. So much drama. It lasted for like a week.

It should end at some point ryt. Then me with huge weight carrying in my heart , I said I will look for other options. Then I attended an exam to apply for M.tech in a random private collge. I passed it. So I got the seat to apply for M.tech in a private college.

Discipline by God Grace is still good. But feels empty due to lack of purpose. In parallel , I am taking an internship for Python and Data Science. My workout and diet is still perfect by Godโ€™s Grace but lack that aggression that I had earlier. Fapping became more common. My mom wants me to pursue GATE with the hope of getting better Govt jobs . But I was not doing it as a sign of resistance against her decision.

Also I admit I have tons of lecture videos I have to attend if in case I am looking for GATE. Its because I was fully committed to CDS earlier so GATE was not at all a priority.

If nothing seems to work , I will probably take M.tech that I got in a private college that starts on 1st of August.

If anyone can give me advice regarding no fap , purpose , better ways to spent time till 1st Aug etc , I will be grateful

ALWAYS THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING

Why specifically 1st Aug?

Damn bro, I did said I might not be ready to sacrifice a lot for that lifestyle but I still went with it, preparing for CDS thatโ€™s on 1st sept. Also, balancing shit because I am preparing for GATE as well. CDS written isnโ€™t that difficult imo, can be cracked but syllabus of social science is big. But we as engineers are habitual to clutching some real shit in short amount of time.

M.tech starts on 1st Aug , so I need something to keep myself occupied

True. I just gone through Maths question paper and I was able to solve 60 - 70 percent of questions on 1st glance. Remaining was just because I dont remember the formulas and all. Same goes for English. The only challenge is Social Science.

Bro , I find no better option than looking for GATE for the time being. Can we become accountabilty patners ? I am taking EE as my secondary paper so I might need your help as well.

Also feel free to ask any doubts associated with ECE if u are taking it as a secondary paper.

100% bro. Dm me

Only signals and systems is one topic which coincides with ECE and to some extent analog and digital. Well, since I have online coaching now, I think I may not refer multiple sources now.

Good to see you guys preparing for GATEโ€ฆI missed this opportunity
Now several years down the line I see my friends working in likes of Qualcomn, Nvidia and making huge sums of money post Mtech from IITsโ€ฆa very stable life compared to folks working in IT who have a constant pressure of reskilling.

Hello bro. Since I got Mtech from a private college which starts on 1st Aug and next GATE can only be expected on Feb 2025 , my main motive of this GATE coaching is to get into PSUโ€™s.

The chance of getting there is thin compared to getting M.tech at IITโ€™s but I believe its worth it.

Btw happy to know u are an ECE student and South Indian like me .

As in you werenโ€™t aware that this exam exists?

What is Gate I think I am the only confuse one here ?

Once u complete ur B.tech , You want to write an exam called GATE if u are interested in M.tech. GATE is a general way to get into M.tech. But there are some private universities that conduct exam outside GATE to get M.tech there.

Btw Happy Birthday @Imaginator  :birthday:

Of course I was aware but I chose college placements over GATE

Was it good enough? Like were you satisfied with the job and also the package?

initially yes, as it was pretty good than average packages back thenโ€ฆin long term no not at allโ€ฆ

Now in hindsight, I realise that the time post BTech is the best time to take chances, as you dont have any liabilitiesโ€ฆInstead of getting into the trap of a good jobโ€ฆpeople should aim for CAT, GATE or work for 2 years and then GRE/GMATโ€ฆ

A good higher education should be the goalโ€ฆ

And btw PSUs are quite badโ€ฆmy friends who toiled very hard and could get into PSU through GATE are all very dissatisfied with their jobsโ€ฆno growth, lots of bureaucracy / politics, remote locations of office and blah blah blahโ€ฆ many of them have written GMAT and gotten into MBAs to get into corporate jobs.
But the ones who chose IITs and later joined Intel, NVIDIA of the world they are at the top of the world right now

Oh thats a different angle from what I have thought. My thinking was more of a stability and good salary , and some free time compared to private IT sectors etc. I knew politics do exist but I believe I am quite diplomatic for that.

Or if its worse I might look for the job as a professor since I love teaching etc

Kinda same here. As long as it doesnโ€™t affects me or my morals, I donโ€™t interfere in any matter whatsoever. And people around me think I am such a silent guy.
