I don’t like death note but If you are looking for same genre, perhaps you should give a try to Psycho-Pass
(Now there is 2 popular anime : AOT and JJK, both worth-watching)

The psychological battle btw Light and L , conversations about human morality , investigation and some exploration of dark parts in human psychology is what fascinated me the most.

Yeah . Light yagami started to use the book for Surving Justice towards humanity. But later he just started killing every person who opposed with his ideology. I liked this anime .

Death Note is my all time favorite and I don’t think there is any anime better than Death Note. But I can suggest some which has the same genre and are worth watching.
1: Moriarty the Patriot
2: Code Geass
3: Monster
