Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Romans 9:21 (KJV)
Inspiration
God has a different assignment for each of us, and it is up to Him to shape us for our different roles, just like a potter shapes clay for different functions. The potter makes some pots uninteresting and useful for mundane tasks because those pots are just as necessary-perhaps more so-as the finely decorated vases. Despite our different roles in the kingdom, each of us is useful.
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me a place in Your kingdom. Help me to not envy the assignments of others, but to accept the role that You have prepared for me. I surrender to Your hands and ask that You would mold me and prepare me, fill me, and use me. Be glorified in all that I do, even the mundane tasks. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
Proverbs 15:22 (KJV)
Inspiration
We all have plans and ambitions. And it’s good that we pray before putting our plans into action. One of the ways that God answers prayer is through the counsel of other believers. So let us seek the counsel of the wise and faithful among us, for the knowledge, experience, and discernment of the body of believers is greater than the mind of just one.
Prayer
God, Thank You for calling me not only to Yourself but to the body of believers. Thank You for my local church, and for the wise teachers and friends that You have provided for me. Help me to rely on them when I am faced with big decisions, so that together we may seek You in prayer. And give me ears to hear Your wisdom in their words as You speak through them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
Hebrews 13:16 (KJV)
Inspiration
It is right that we worship, that we offer God our praise and adoration. But our sacrifice does not end when we step away from the altar. Every act of kindness toward another is a sacrifice that is pleasing to God. When we share our resources with others, help them as we are able, and serve them with compassion, we are giving back to God out of all that He has given to us.
Prayer
Father God, You are the giver of all good gifts. Thank You for blessing my life with all that You have provided me. Help me to always remember that all that I have is Yours, and give me a heart of stewardship so that I may always be ready to serve and help my neighbor. Be revealed and glorified in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Matthew 7:26 (KJV)
Inspiration
When we ask for instructions and advice, we do so with the intent of following them. But when we hear Jesus’ teaching and fail to do it, we are like someone who tossed away the directions we’ve been given. And just like the house built on sandy land, we find that when we build up our lives without following Jesus’ direction, our structures will ultimately collapse.
Prayer
Lord, You have given me Your word, Your example, and Your Spirit. You have made Your truth and Your instructions abundant and clear. Teach me to rely on all that You say and all that You teach so that everything I build may be built according to Your plans and by Your power. In Jesus’ name, amen.

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
1 John 2:9 (KJV)
Inspiration
Darkness and light cannot occupy the same space, since darkness is the absence of light. The same is true of the spiritual light of love. If we harbor hate towards others, we remain in darkness. Only the love of God can overcome this darkness. So let us seek God and His love, and drive out all darkness from our hearts.
Prayer
Lord, You are a God of love, and Your love is light. Search my heart and reveal any darkness that hides there. Forgive me for holding on to hate. Fill me anew with Your Spirit and Your love, and teach me to love others the way that You love me. Give me eyes to see Your image in those around me so that my heart may be renewed. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Psalm 119:34 (KJV)
Inspiration
Whether we’re assembling something, playing a game, or doing our jobs, we have an easier time following instructions if we understand them. The same is true on our spiritual journeys. We might stumble through some of God’s commands on our own, but when we seek and receive understanding, obedience springs from our hearts, and not just from a set of instructions.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your word and its guidance in my life. Grant me wisdom and understanding, so that by learning Your word I may know You better. Give me insight to understand the heart of love and truth behind all of Your instructions, so that I may walk more closely with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
Luke 8:25 (KJV)
Inspiration
The disciples were worried about the storm while Jesus slept. Still, when they called on him, Jesus answered, and silenced the wind and waves with a word. The disciples were amazed at Jesus’ authority, while Jesus questioned their lack of faith. As followers of Jesus, we are reminded that when we see that Jesus is not worried about our situation, it is a sure sign that we should not be worried, either.
Prayer
God, You are the Creator of all things, and You have authority over all of heaven and earth. As I come before You with my worries and my fears, I turn to Your calming presence. Teach me to trust in Your power, in Your love, and in Your authority. Thank You for giving me the assurance that You are in control. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
James 4:3
Inspiration
God knows our hearts. He knows not only what we ask, but why we ask. And when we ask with impure motives, seeking God only as a means to achieving our selfish desires, He gently corrects us. It is God’s desire that our hearts would turn to Him, for His sake, and be satisfied with Him. And in turn, He helps us to overcome our selfish desires as we set our minds on heavenly things.
Prayer
Lord, too often my own desires and priorities get in the way of truly seeking You. Please transform my heart and renew my mind so that I may be more like You. Help me to put away selfish ambitions and lustful pursuits, and instead desire more of what is true, good, and right. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:39 (KJV)
Inspiration
God’s love, expressed in the death and resurrection of Jesus is a powerful force. So powerful that nothing in nature can overcome it. So vast that no distance can separate us. Gravity, magnetism, and all of the forces of nature have limits. But the love of God is immeasurable and unending. And it is ours, because we are His.
Prayer
Lord God, I thank You for Your rich and powerful love. It gives me great joy and peace to know that nothing is greater or stronger than Your love. Thank You for making me Yours and for surrounding me with Your love. Whenever I face doubt or fear or worry, please draw me near and remind me of Your awesome love so that I may rest in Your peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
John 13:38 (KJV)
Inspiration
We might make big promises- especially to God. But when we find ourselves in a difficult situation where our promises matter most, can we uphold them? Jesus knows that sometimes our talk is bigger than our action. And sometimes He gives us opportunities to see where our words get ahead of us to gently remind us to choose our promises carefully.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness. Even though I have let You down, Your promises never fail. Teach me to be wise in my words, so that I may make only the promises that I can keep. And give me the power to persevere and see my promises through, even when it seems difficult or impossible. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
Leviticus 19:17 (KJV)
Inspiration
God calls us to love all people, even our enemies. But He especially calls us to love our brothers and sisters in Christ. Our love for one another is what sets us apart as God’s children. And when we need to rebuke our neighbor, love demands that we do so plainly, and without enmity. For our goal is not to condemn, but to heal and restore.
Prayer
God, I am thankful for the people that You have placed in my life. My church family has been a blessing and a source of strength to me. Help me to grow in my love for them so that we may reflect You even more. And when words of rebuke are needed, give me the grace to speak Your truth in love, for the good of Your people and the sake of Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Acts 1:11 (KJV)
Inspiration
When we think of heaven, we tend to imagine a place high in the sky. But if we fixate on only what we can see, we may miss the fullness of God’s kingdom, which Jesus has called us to proclaim here and now. So let us turn our eyes forward, trusting Jesus to lead us as we proclaim his kingdom now. For we know that one day our King will return.
Prayer
Father, I know that my eyes can only see so far and that my understanding is limited. Still, You have called me to be an ambassador for Your kingdom. Help me to do my part to grow Your kingdom on earth by living for You and proclaiming Your good news. And teach me to focus on the prize ahead so that I may be ready and alert when You return. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Amen, brother! I’m looking for the day when He returns! I know of a preacher that had little sign on his desk that said, “Perhaps today may be the day!”. I know we struggle down here, but we’re going somewhere where all of this will be gone! Praise the Lord!

He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Luke 1:51 (KJV)
Inspiration
Mary had been given good news and a great honor, having been blessed with the joy of bringing Jesus into the world. Yet, she remained humble, recognizing that all power and authority belonged to God. And God would use the humble to exalt Himself and reveal His power. And all of this to His glory!
Prayer
Lord, like Mary, we rejoice in Your power. You humble the proud and You lift us the lowly. You have proven Your love and Your might over and over with everything that You do. Thank You for calling me to be Your child and Your servant. Instill a humble heart in me so that You, and You alone, may be glorified in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Matthew 6:30 (KJV)
Inspiration
Most of us don’t give grass much thought. We mow it what we have to, and let the wild stuff beyond the yard grow. There isn’t much to think about. Yet, even the grass is intentionally made and sustained by our Creator. And if He cares so completely for something as simple as grass, we can be sure that He will care for us who are made in His image.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the many ways that You reveal Your splendor. Your Creation testifies to Your power and love. In every sprout of grass, in every color of flower, I see Your hand and Your mind at work. And thank You for caring so purposefully for me, too. I trust You to sustain me each day and to shape me into who You made me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Romans 4:5 (KJV)
Inspiration
Do you do good works because you believe they will save you, or because you trusted in God to save you? It is the path of faith,—and not of works—that makes us righteous. Our works could never earn us righteousness, so we must rely on the One who has paid the price for us. So we go forth in His grace, doing the works that testify to what He has already done for us.
Prayer
Lord God, I come before You relying on Your mercy and grace. I know that I could never earn Your forgiveness and be made righteous on my own. So thank You for saving me by Your grace, and making me righteous by the blood of Jesus. Please give me the humility to do good for You without boasting so others may know Your grace, too. In Jesus’ name, amen

The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:12 (KJV)
Inspiration
Do you ever think that if you become rich, all of your problems would go away? From today’s verse, we learn that wealth brings its own set of anxieties. Fear of theft and loss can rob a rich person of sleep and peace. But the one who is sustained with daily bread from the Lord rests in comfort, knowing that God meets all of his needs.
Prayer
Gracious God, each day You sustain me and my family. Thank You for Your provision, which is always enough. I take comfort in Your faithfulness, and it is with gratitude that I take shelter in the shadow of Your wing. Grow me in contentment, so that You and Your grace may always be sufficient for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
