Why do you relapse so much?

Okay, so I’m on a 155 day streak, but the thing is that I’ve had streaks like this before. But this time I learned from my past failures. What I learned was what my triggers are and why motivation doesn’t last forever. Motivation is a good thing, during the time it last. But motivation comes and goes, what you need is a Purpose. A Purpose to fight this thing, a Purpose at your job, and a Purpose for your whole life.

I would also love to hear about you guys’ experiences

@Radio I think each person’s life focus or purpose changes because sometimes you reach your goal. New opportunities create new desires in everyone.

Personally I take everything one day at a time. It sounds boring but I believe one day builds upon another. I also believe if you are here God allowed PMO to be problem for you for a purpose. My purpose I believe is to rely on my God to help me overcome this, to build a stronger relationship with him, and to get to know him better.

Well my purpose is to get rid of porn, since it feels bad and makes me guilty. I want to be happy inside without needing to resort to porn.

@jesture55 Those are some of the reasons I want to stop too

I totally agree with what you said! I really want to have a stronger and deeper relationship with God and really I want to be a witness for God, but This PMO thing makes me feel like I’m not worthy or strong enough to witness for the Lord.

If we get to know God and not just learn facts about him we can be a witness for him.

Whats opened my eyes is this book called “Pure Desire”. It mentioned that our struggle is a form of idolatry but that there are multiple factors that cause us to turn to this. There is hope.

We have to learn to not dwell with fantasies or with guilt. We can do this. It will take time and effort. I’m glad you opened up this topic @Radio.

Currently my streak is 8 days, but my last streak was 119 days 15 hours to be exact. The thing which I came to realise was that, we begin to feel more normal i.e – we don’t have irregular erections, we have more control over our emotions, less anger, more focus. But, the thing is it can all go away in a blink of an eye. We are vulnerable beings, there is no escaping that fact. We must always keep that in mind. Anything from anywhere can make us want to masturbate. Complacency can lead to downfall, which is what happened to me. :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree, we can’t get complacent. There was a time in my life that I wished to be totally normal again (as in no PMO addiction), but I realized that without this problem in my life I wouldn’t be as strong of a person or I wouldn’t know pain on the level that I do too

Right you are man. One must go through the rough days in order to enjoy his better days. It was good that we were addicted to pmo. We have learned a lot about the nature of addiction, how to tackle it, what arouses us, etc. Now, further in our life we won’t succumb to addictions anymore. But, one more thing I would like to say is, depression is the root cause of these addictions. We fap, because we are unhappy with our current life and we want to feel better.

Changing our life for better, finding the right motivation can eradicate this addiction one and for all.
