This is a separate thread were I am planning to not use YouTube from now on ( I never use YT for studies these days so there are no way I can equate YT to some productive work. )
Others can join me for accountability . If not let it be my personal battle.
I have left youtube too. I have wasted so many years of my life in youtube watching all stupid and cringy things. We think we will watch watch youtue for so called ‘‘PRODUCTIVE’’ or ‘‘INFORMATIVE’’ purposes only. But the thing is there is NOTHING productive/informative about youtube. Youtube has been designed to addict you to their app so that they earn revenue through ads. The common ads in Yt are about Food/Travel/ Gambling applications/ Movies & Series title or teaser etc wich are distractive. We may think we have skipped the ads after 5 seconds and so it will not have any impact on our brain. But the thing is IT DOES HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR BRAIN UNCONSCIOUSLY making us distracted. We don’t need youtube at all. If we are so concerned about knowledge/ productivity/ information, lets’ read a book or a magazine or a newspaper. We need to realise that its our FOMO which makes us stick to Yt. So called ‘‘Motivational Videos’’ in youtue are nothing but a bunch of crap which last today and gets exhausted tomorrow. We don’t need motivation. We need discipline. Motivation is a convenient excuse for people who are lazy to inculcate discipline in their lives. Motivation is a fool’s paradise
So lets stop for god’s sake saying that YT can be used for so called ‘‘PRODUCTIVE’’ or ‘’ STUDIES’’ purposes and overcome Yt addiction just like we try to overcome PMO addiction. Just like ■■■■ wesites, youtube websites too make billions in revenue out of our distraction and time wastage
I don’t know why people don’t even realise this. Probably they will realise after they have wasted whopping amount of time in youtube like me.
Youtube is an addiction worse than PMO
Just think about.
Every time we watch a video from youtube,
Alphabet Inc gets ad revenue
Content creator monetizes his earnings
But what do we get in return??
Just time wastage. That’s it.
Some may say ‘’ No but the video was informative/ thought-provoking / knowledgeable etc.
If we are so concerned about knowledge/ studies, lets read a book.
Have we ever been addicted to a book because it was informative/ thought-provoking/ knowledgeable??
No right? Because books don’t addict you. Books are not designed to addict you. Rather it is yt which is designed and updated to addict you.
In a glass fill of extremely tasty and nutritious milk, even if one droplet of poison is poured, entire glass of milk is poisonous
Similarly in youtube there are loads of extremely well-edited, designed fantastic videos which will blow our mind. But along with it comes mechanisms inbuilt in youtube to addict you for life. It is completely left in our hand if we really want to consume this glass of highly tasty and nutritious milk with a small drop of poison added in it.
True bro. If I had the power to quit YT earlier , I might have got over this addiction way earlier. For me its YT that’s the trigger point that leads to PMO.
Thank you. In this picture Narasimha swami is not killing the inner self of Hiranya Kashipu. Rather he is ferociously killing the bad qualities present inside him so that he can get back his beloved gatekeeper Vijayan ( If know the actual story about gate keepers of Lord Vishnu : Jayan and Vijayan and their curse which ensued, you will know about this)
Similarly in our lives, we need to kill the BAD QUALITIES present within ourselves like dishonesty, jealously, arrogance, ego, selfishness, PMO addiction, Youtube addiction etc, to get back to our real inner self and serve Lord Vishnu This is the moral reflected in the picture present in my dp
What I did is that I Quit YouTube for almost 2 months and after this I started watching Satsang videos only. Still I do watch videos but I don’t scroll reels. I search only satsang, Bhajan kirtan, studies topics.
I’ve made a rule not to watch anything else except this.
But yes I know YouTube is so clever & tricky. It will show me bad things but one thing I remember guruji has told in his satsang that " The world is full of negativity, nudity, vulgur things. You can’t stay away from them for a long time. You need to have control on your mind. You must have " Pavitra Buddhi " to take right decesion.
One thing should be clear. I’ll watch only this. I’ll not search anything bad. If I watch something bad mistakenly then immediately I’ll do naam jap and keep my mind busy in remembering God. That’s it.
Although I can’t quit youtube but I’ll use it wisely.
I’ll minimise the screen time on YouTube.
I’ll control my mind. Mind is my servant not master.
If you are using it from mobile, go to settings> application manager > youtube > disable
If you are using it from computer, install site blocker add-ons from your web browser add-ons store. Then enter youtube’s Internet address in its black list
