INTRO
So some of you might have read the book by 10000 hour rule by Malcolm Gladwell which says you will be a master of something if you spent on that act for 10000 hours . So this is a challenge that is primarily focused on that. Tho 10000 hr rule is not a foolproof solution , I am sure a person who have worked for like 10000 hr is obviously a expert considering the fact that he spent those hours well.
But there is a flaw that I have noticed after reading that book. The book does not explicitly mention habits related to self control like no junk food , no fap etc . Also the book doesnt explicitly mention the impact of skipping a particular habit. I think thats one of the reasons why that principle is hard to apply in real life.
But I think I found a way to sort things out , With some equations and formulas , we can get rid of the flaws associated with the book. Obviously these formulas are not perfectly accurate but atleast we can get some idea , or in other words measurable.
FEATURES
- Each participant have a level . Every participant starts at Level 1 , They get to level 2 , 3 etc when they get exp .
- Exp is the sum total of all the hours spent on each habit.
- There will be leaderboards in Post 2 which ranks each user wrt level in descending order.

HOW HABITS WORK
Habits Involving Discipline
For habits involving discipline like working out etc , its straightforward. You get 1 hr and hence 1 EXP if you do 1 hr of workout. If you fail to do a particular task you will lose partial amount of hours ( and hence partial exp ) which will be explained in later section.
1 Hour of work = 1 EXP
Habits involving Willpower
For habits involving willpower like No junk food etc. You will get 24 hours ( and hence 24 EXP ) if you are successful , relapse means you will lose partial points.
Exception - For junk food habit which performance depend upon calories , I equated hours = calories. If you are successful for 1 day , you will get 250 EXP . A kind of cheat code to get to high levels easily. That means you will get 10000 EXP within 40 days. But there is a catch , if you fail. It will go all the way back to zero.
1 Day Abstinence = 24 EXP
BARE MINIMUM RULE
Bare minimum rule in simple words is defined as least amount of work you can do so that you screw less.
For example if you have a habit of working out 1 hr at gym , set an additional criteria called " Bare minimum " which is bare minimum that you must do in situations that you were unable to go to Gym that day. It could be like walking 30 minutes. Its as per your wish
Following this bare minimum principle will make you lose less exp when you fail in that habit.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
- Participants interested to join should let me know the habits that you are willing to do
- For each habit , write the bare minimum task for each habit
- In case if you cannot do a certain task due to unforseen circumstances , Do let me know the day before so that I can freeze the exp system for that day. Also do the same if you are not planning to do a certain habit for now on.
LEVEL SYSTEM FOR EACH HABIT
Along with overall level , You are also allocated with levels for each habit.

SCORING SYSTEM
This section is to show you how exp is allotted to each habit. It is not necesaary for the participants to read this because I will be the one to dealing with this.
But for those who are geeky with mathematical formulas and all. These are the ways , I allot the scores
Type 1 : Time Oriented Discipline Habits
These are the habits that consider time as a factor for the progress of the habit considering the quality of work constant. Habits like exercise , study , meditation etc will fall into this category.
Here for each hour of quality time spent , you will get 1 EXP.
If you fail to acheive the task , the person will lose the exp that he was supposed to get. But if you completed your bare minimum task , then he will neither lose points , Nor gain points.
Eg - A person have decided that he will study 4 hours a day with a bare minimum of 1 hr of study. Suppose he fails to do that task , then he will lose 4 EXP. But if he fails to study 4 hrs but keeps his bare minimum then he will neither lose nor gain exp
Type 1.1: Invaluable Habits of Type 1
This is a special case for habits like meditation in which spending on those habit for a few minutes can lead to significant results.
For such habit , practising for 1 minute gives 1 exp . Remaining all the rules are same as that of Type 1
Type 2 : Non time oriented Discipline Habits
This includes discipline habit that is independent of time like checking emails , having supplements , watering plants etc
In such cases , you will get 1 exp for each task done.
For eg - Lets consider a person who have a habit of having vitamin supplements 2 times a day. He also follows the bare minimum rule to atleast have vitamin supplements once per day.
In such a scenario , the point system alloted will be allotted as follows
- Will get 2 exp if he had vitamin supplements twice per day.
- Failure to meet the task but maintained the bare minimum will keep the score constant.
- Failure to even meet the bare minimum will lead to losing of the score he is supposed on get that day.
Type 3 : Time Oriented Willpower Habits
This includes habits that rely on willpower and also it is depended on time. Playing video games , Pornography etc are examples to this.
Abstinence for 1 day will grant you 24 EXP. Just like other habit , you have a bare minimum rule which works the same like other cases.
Eg - Imagine a person who want to abstain pornography. He took the bare minimum of 1 hr if everything goes bad. So the score system goes as follows
- Gets 24 EXP upon abstaining from pornography
- Do not get any points if used pornography 1 hr or less
- Loses 24 points if pornography is used more than 1 hr then loses 24 points per each hour
Type 4 : Non Time Oriented willpower habits
These are the habits that rely on willpower but not necessarily relied on time. Masturbation , Smoking will fall under such habits.
Abstinence for 1 day will grant you 1 EXP. Just like other habit , you have a bare minimum rule which works the same like other cases.
Eg - Imagine a person who want to abstain masturbation. He took the bare minimum of 1 relapse if everything goes bad. So the score system goes as follows
- Gets 1 EXP upon abstaining from masturbation
- Do not get any points if done only 1 time
- Loses 24 points if masturabation is done more than 1 time then loses 1 points per each relapse
Type 4.1 - Special Case
This case belongs to habits that depend on a different factor on willpower like no alchohol , junk food etc. The rules are similar but with minor changes
Abstinence for 1 day will grant you 250 EXP. Just like other habit , you have a bare minimum rule which works the same like other cases.
Eg - Imagine a person who want to abstain junk food. He took the bare minimum of 500 calories of Junk food if everything goes bad. So the score system goes as follows
- Gets 250 EXP upon abstaining from junk food
- Loses half of the total points if failed to control junk food but maintained the bare minimum
- Loses full points on failure to maintain bare minimum
OUTRO
I am seeing this challenge as an RPG for life . How everything goes well as intended. Hope I can be consistent in moderating this challenge as well as participants who is participating this challenge.
Wish you all the best and God bless
