Well, some of you have deleted social Media from their life. I am thinking of doing the same. Before taking this sudden step, I want to ask what challenges do you face after deleting social media, what benefits did you actually acquire and how did it helped your productivity. Are there any other factors at play too that you would like to mention?
@prince_king i remember you deleted social media, your insights will be valuable, let’s start from you.
(don’t extrapolate or exaggerate the responses ) Thank You !
My Personal Experience
Deleting social media gives you peace. You keep your eyes and mind pure. You feel light. If you don’t work on social media then you must delete all social media. Although I use YouTube, only for spiritual and religious video. Otherwise YouTube itself is a trap ( YT shorts trap )
Also, when you delete them you get time. You’ll feel bored in beginning but then you’ll find any work. And yes Social media is poison. Delete it
I dont have have any social media except for youtube. There I always try to watch content from where I can gain knowledge, motivation etc. Though I am not sometimes able to follow that…but i think the other like insta, fb, snapchat and all are just useless unless you wanna make money. Youtube is useful if you know how to use it wisely
I still have instagram account. I don’t stay completely away altogether. I stay away for months and when I have some free time I do check out my account a little. I again started using Instagram from 19th of may but I have decided I will only use it in weekends for just little entertainment. But I do stay alert because I know insta is full of triggers.
At start, I felt bored and lonely. But as time progressed, I started focusing on my goals and interaction with IRL friends increased which is a huge positive.
Peace of mind, it’s the single most powerful reason to cut social media usage. And obviously, you will have time for your career, goals and also time for hobbies or anything good you want to learn.
Things become much more simple when you are focusing on just one task, one purpose, one thing instead of focusing on multiple topics (topics which you would have never thought of if not for social media.)
Disadvantages of permanently quiting:
Worse sense of humor, and let’s be real, sense of humor is one of the most important things for a personality, and the internet provides you with up to date
to what is funny and what isn’t in the world.
Loneliness, and being stuck with friends that are a bad influence. You are the average of your friend group, and it doesn’t matter whether the friend group is online or irl, the impact of that friend group on you is the same. So being able to decide who your main friend group is, is the closest you can get to actually changing who you are fundamentally as a person, and social media is a tool to find the most compatible friends.
Challenges:
Social media is literally fuxking everywhere.
You stop trusting your memory at a certain point because you think that your brain is intentionally forgetting memories because you are secretly using social media or some other bullisht. Best way to overcome this is to use blockers and apps that have app usage time dashboard reports available in order to have actual visual evidence that you are abstaining from social media, because our memories can be distorted by our subconscious mind on purpose (in this case the purpose is using social media without the guilt that comes with it), although what I just said isn’t a realistic scenario, having visual evidence instead of just unreliable memories is better for our sanity in this case.
Advice:
Maybe don’t quit forever, social media is a great tool to stay informed and make money (make money if you are producing instead of consuming), and even make friends, because let’s be real, you are more likely to find friends that are more compatible with you online than you can in your entire city, so just use it on like Saturdays or smth like that.
My personal opinion is, make sure that entertainment and work aren’t competing for your time. Make specific days for work only, and make a day for entertainment only, the two should never belong in the the same day, but that is just my opinion and what works for me.
I know a little bit entertainment can make us feel good but nowadays many people are using social media in a bad way.
There is a huge difference between today’s social media and past social media.
Social media can inform us but many time we get misinformation too. And Instagram has become a p0nn sites.
I’d say just open the app, do post and close it
True, but you know there is this whole thing of nature versus nurture, some people have naturally good sense of humor, while others have to develop it, in this case develop it through social media usage.
It’s true, another problem with social media, is that everyone on social media is fake. I’m not just talking about people who try to deceive everyone by posting a much different version of their life than what their life really is, I am talking about everything. Even self improvement YouTubers are just trying to build an audience to feed to their sophisticated sales funnels, they couldnt give less of a shit about men’s mental health or any of the things they preach, they’re just there to make money. Everyone is fake on social media, be it in the most literal sense, in that they are just bots, or the more metaphorical sense in that the people there portray themselves as completely different people than they actually are. Social media is for manufactured personal brands made for manufactured sales funnels, nothing more, and people must realize this, everyone who realizes this is taking advantage of this, and I will soon also be taking advantage of this system.
Yes we need to take advantage of it. But the system has been created that traps us. It feed us bad content most of the time. One has to be very careful while using it, otherwise it has infinite ways to make your life dumb
In summary I should use social media to earn but not consume. That means I only take media where I earn i.e. YouTube and Instagram and delete all others while using blockers remove contents that is irrelevant to me and all.
And one important point @FapRecovery made is that I should not let work and entertainment fight for my time. It really hit me. I think I will only give social media time from 10:00-11:00 PM in night, while working all day.
Exception day Sunday when I can watch webseries all day.
I actually don’t care about humour since humour comes automatically once you have money, your words become philosophy even when you speak normal things, that’s why I want to limit social media, in order to become that person.
Rewire in itself is a social media, therefore I would like to limit it too. Chrome is also a type of social stimulus, I would like to completely remove it and use chat gpt Instead
I think of doing something similar, Like deleting them for 3-4 months and then get back to some of them slowly to earn from them and make friends, and re-connect.
Yeah, that’s the hard part, but since I won’t be in much contact with anyone for some months, it’s alright.
One thing is, I don’t hate social media, even opposite of it. I want to post alot, create content and have fun using it. But since I need to lock in with work, social media acts as a distraction Instead.
When i deleted all the apps… The real life makes me to understand that I was in a trap for more years. I was afraid to socialize… Social media makes us to hide us from reality…
