lets Share, i usually take some ciggaretes and smoke with read or watch movie
Thats exactly what you theoretically shouldn’t do. You’re fighting one addiction with two new ones
- Cold shower
- go out for a 10min walk
- meditate (observe my urge → pretty hard but works)
- do some work out (push ups and stuff)
- easy but effective: just stand up and walk around
- write yourself a list of goals / things you wanna do this week. Look at them with the knowledge that you can either achieve your goals and be happy or fap
For me, it’s changing my environment in general. It’s either my mood/something on my mind or something triggering me in my environment that leads to a relapse. Changing the place I’m in usually changes either one or both those things.
Going out for a walk works best. I can distract myself, connect with things or people around me, get some sunlight and it’s a short workout as well since walking/sports release small shots of dopamine as well. And while I walk, I can make a plan what to do when I get back to my place and try to follow that plan through as best as I can, so I won’t end up in the same place as I was in before I went out. I usually don’t go back to my house before I have a specific thing I want to do when I come back.
Also, after a while I teach my mind to react this way to urges or the feeling of urges, so everytime I get triggered again it gets easier and easier, until I connect the urge with doing something productive and feeling good about it
Although I also think at some point it is important to learn to just accept urges, at least sexual urges in general (not the same as cravings for ■■■■ IMO). Those are just natural, the unnatural thing is how you react to them. Plenty of people wake up horny and still go to work
So meditating may be a good way to tackle that.
important point. the differentiation between cravings and just normal horniness. we don’t wanna be zombies
Strategies to RunAway from Fapping
- Study German
- Go to a relative’s house
- Talk to a friend on the phone (Be more busy and have more human contact e.g. voice, face-to-face)
- Immediately share with the NoFap guys in accountability groups I’m in.
- Go anywhere else (movie theater, friend’s house, church, Cultural Center of my city)
- Sleep early
I normally try to observe what my triggers are and do my best to avoid those triggers. It sounds cliched but really all addictions are a journey of self discovery.
I found that when I’m overly stressed I feel the need to relapse but then I realise that being stressed is okay and normal and a part of being human. I don’t need to escape from it.
So for me, I guess just general mindfulness works.
