Morning Bible Verse of the Day

March 30, 2025 Sunday

Morning Prayer

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
From: Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

Inspiration

The Spirit produces in us all the Christian graces, which we would usually refer to as positive character traits. These graces indicate a changed heart that will naturally keep the Law of God. For love is the fulfilling of the law. And there is no valid law against these virtues or any actions that flow out of them.

Prayer

Work in us, O Spirit of God, cultivating and producing a garden full of all of your fruit. We seek to be holy and live in love. We plead for you to work in us according to the Father’s will to create in us the image of the Son. Let us seek then, O God, your appointed means of grace, your Word, and trust you to so work! Amen.

Mark 10:46-47 (KJV)

And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Where Do You Need Healing?

Frances Taylor

We all need healing, but are we β€œblind” to where we need healing the most? Bartimeus in today’s gospel knew what needed healing and who he needed to go to in order to obtain healing. Physical needs, such as Batimaeus’ blindness, are obvious, but spiritual, emotional or psychological healing can be hidden even from ourselves. Those whose specialty includes marketing or advertising are well aware of this and use this to create a need for their products in us. Sometimes it is hard to see what we really need – or hard to admit it. Are we still carrying pain from a betrayal, a loss, an unfulfilled need buried so deeply that we are afraid to open the wound? Are we suffering from an addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling or our phones? We are told there is a new β€œcondition” called FOMO, the fear of missing out of something. These addictions can take away from our families and even our ability to hold down a job, Doctors know that wounds sometimes need to be opened in order for healing to occur. Jesus is the Doctor who knows were our deepest wounds are found and is waiting for us to come to him in order that they may be healed. Bartimaeus knew this. We need to have the faith in Jesus to bring our wounds to the light and love of his healing power, but first we need to have the courage to face them. Let’s take advantage of every opportunity to ask for healing. Jesus is waiting.

Prayer

Gracious God, open my eyes to the areas of my life where I need healing. I ask you to light the dark spots in me so that I may see more clearly the things that I need to change. I come to you, Lord, in the firm belief that you want me to be healed, and ask you to do it. Amen.

Night Bible Verse of the Day

March 30, 2025 Sunday

Night Prayer

But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
From: Luke 10:29 (KJV)

Inspiration

When Jesus gives us instructions, do we willingly obey, or do we try to negotiate? Do we want to love all of our neighbors, or do we try to select just the ones that are easy to love? We must guard against trying to bend Jesus’ words to fit our will. Instead, we must hear all of His words- even the ones that challenge us- so that we can be prepared to walk in full obedience to Him.

Prayer

Jesus, You call me to love my neighbor. And I confess that I have not loved all of my neighbors the way that You love me. I’ve looked down on some and shut others out. Please help me to see all people as my neighbors and to love them with Your love, so that I may serve You by serving whoever You place in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Morning Bible Verse of the Day

March 31, 2025 Monday

Morning Prayer

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
From:. Galatians 3:26-27 (KJV)

Inspiration

There is physical baptism with water, but here Paul seems to speak of spiritual baptism with the Spirit of God. It is that baptism that made us God’s children through faith and causes us to β€œput on” Christ. To put on Christ would be to put on his character, Christlikeness.

Prayer

We are your children, O Lord, for you have made us such. By faith, you adopted us; by the Spirit, you sanctified us to yourself. As physical children resemble their parents, so make us also to resemble you, being your spiritual children. Let us strive today to live in a way that lets all see that we are the children of God indeed. Amen.

Luke 15:11-12 (KJV)

And he said, A certain man had two sons:
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

The Prodigal Son

Frances Taylor

We all know the story of the Prodigal Son. When you hear it, who do you compare yourself to? Are you the forgiving father, the sinful son, or the jealous brother? Or maybe you’re the mother we don’t hear about praying that her son will come home. If we’re honest, we could be any one of them, depending on the day. If we have children, we know what it’s like for a child to hurt us by his or her actions. Sometimes this can be very serious. There are parents who have children in prison. It takes a lot of courage and forgiveness to visit them and make sure they still know of a parent’s love. At other times a child turns his or her back on the parent’s beliefs. How do we react? There are times when we are the prodigal who turned their back on their parent, rejecting their values, getting involved in drugs or worse. Do we have the courage of the prodigal in this parable to admit that we are wrong and return home admitting our failures and begging our parent for forgiveness? And maybe we’re the jealous brother or sister who doesn’t understand how the father or mother can forgive this brother again and again. Most likely, if you are a parent, you pray every day that God will protect this child of yours and bring them back unharmed.

God is truly a β€œprodigal” father whose love is poured out to us in immeasurable ways. When we have lost our way, God is ready with open arms welcoming us back with open arms as the precious son or daughter he loves.

Prayer

Lord, let me be an example of your love in my life and not be jealous of the love you offer others. Amen.

Night Bible Verse of the Day

March 31, 2025 Monday

Night Prayer

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
From: 1 Peter 2:1 (KJV)

Inspiration

Jesus saves calls us to love our neighbors. But we can’t be ambassadors of love if we think, speak, and act with hatred. Deceit, envy, and slander all cast us in opposition to others because they focus our minds on our own self-interests. We must seek the Spirit to overcome the attitudes that lead to judgment and resentment, so that we may exemplify God’s love to those around us.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the love that You poured out on me even though I don’t deserve it. Please fill me with Your love so that I may love my neighbors fully and freely, the way that You love me. Rid my heart and mind of all bitterness and jealousy, and give me new eyes to see others instead through Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Morning Bible Verse of the Day

April 1, 2025 Tuesday

Morning Prayer

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
From: Proverbs 10:21 (KJV)

Inspiration

It is better to be wise and walk in the counsel of the Lord. The words you speak and the advice you give will give life and restoration to those who are in need of it. When your words are based on the Word of God, you will be able to refresh the souls of many. But if you let foolishness lead your life, you will find yourself in many terrible situations. Folly leads to destruction; it never builds.

Prayer

Dear God, I pray that the words I speak will always reflect your wisdom and your goodness. May I never give into any form of foolishness, Lord, because I know it will only lead to pain and sorrow. Thank you for your guidance, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Luke 12:27-28 (KJV)

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Consider the Lilies

Frances Taylor

The first time I saw Sidney Poitier in a movie was in β€œThe Lilies of the Field” for which he won an Oscar for best actor. The movie had a couple of important lessons and every time I read today’s gospel passage I am reminded of both the movie and the lessons. A group of sisters want to build a chapel and they don’t have the means to do it but believe that if they pray hard enough, the Lord will provide the means and men to do the work. Sidney needs a place to stay and the Superior sees her man. He stays on and works to build the chapel. Okay, you know there must be a twist! He tries to do it alone and fails. Eventually he must ask for help and the chapel is built.

Today we are being told not to worry about the needs of tomorrow but to concentrate on the β€œnow.” But what kind of β€œnow” are we supposed to concentrate on? Not, we are told, on what we are to eat and drink, but to seek first the kingdom of God and then God will provide everything else that we truly need just as he feeds the earth to bring forth the flowers and cares for the birds of the air. The second lesson from the movie is that we all need help at times. Sometimes we need to ask for help, and sometimes we need to be help for others. It is often through his people that God provides for our needs. If we are truly seeking God’s kingdom we will be ready both to ask for help and to offer it. As we continue this season of Lent. Let us reflect on the ways in which we will work to bring the kingdom to others through our prayers, fasting and almsgiving so that our celebration of Easter might be even more glorious.

Prayer

Yes, Lord. I know that you know us and you know what we need even more than we know ourselves. Given us the grace to put you and the kingdom first in our lives trusting in your goodness and mercy to provide for us. Amen.

Night Bible Verse of the Day

April 1, 2025 Tuesday

Night Prayer

For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
From: Psalm 66:10 (KJV)

Inspiration

Sometimes growing in faith hurts. When we face difficulties and have to lean heavily on God, it feels like walking through fire. Yet God uses these fiery trials the way a refiner uses fire, to burn away the impurities. Through trials, God rids us of pride, greed, lust, and more. And when we emerge, we are purer and able to shine brighter for Him.

Prayer

Father God, the trials of life weigh heavily on me. It hurts to endure the suffering, the persecution, and the waiting. Yet I know that You are with me, and I ask that You use this time to purify my heart. Burn away everything that is not of You, so that all that remains is what You would have me be. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Morning Prayer

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
From: Philippians 4:9 (KJV)

Inspiration

When we walk in obedience to God, there is a special peace of God that accompanies us. No believer can be undisturbed while walking in disobedience to God. Only when we β€œtrust and obey” can we be truly happy in Jesus Christ.

Prayer

O Giver of true peace, the world seeks peace in their false religions, in the pleasures of this life, in the gratifying of their every desire, however sinful. We know the source of real peace. It comes from you. Help us to walk in your paths, and show us that they are indeed paths of peace. Amen.

And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Who Do We Believe

Frances Taylor

The people of Jesus’ time were looking for a Messiah, but a Messiah of their own design. We forget sometimes, that the Jewish people of every generation were waiting for the promised Messiah. Jesus even mentions in this passage that he is aware of the attention paid to the Scriptures to try and figure out who the Messiah might be. Jesus also tells them that a reading of the Scriptures leads to him. Unfortunately, they wanted someone who would be a military leader and Jesus wasn’t it. What are we looking for when we think about Jesus? You and I both know that people show up every once in a while proclaiming that they are the Messiah. They will lead us to God if only we listen to them and follow them without question. Often these people have caused damage to the lives of their followers, and some of their followers have lost their lives. There is only one Messiah, Jesus. If we believe that he is sent by the Father in order that we might be saved and also to teach us the way to the Father, then we need to pay attention to his word and not to the words of others claiming to know a better way.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, you sent us Jesus as our Savior. You gave us the Scriptures to lead us to understand his message. Help us to keep our eyes on him and learn from him so that we might spend eternity with you. Amen.

Night Bible Verse of the Day

April 4, 2025 Friday

Night Prayer

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
From: Romans 15:5 (KJV)

Inspiration

God gives us endurance because He is patient with us. God grants us encouragement through His kindness and conciliation. And just as He bears patiently with us through our growth, our shortcomings, and our doubts, He invites us to show that same patient conciliation to others. When we do, growth and love abound, not only in others but in us as well.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your patience in dealing with me. You have forgiven me over and over again. And You continue to guide me through my doubts, my confusion, and my excuses. By Your Spirit, grant me the patience and compassion to endure with my brothers and sisters so that through me they might also experience the fullness of Your kindness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Morning Prayer

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
From: Proverbs 10:2 (KJV)

Inspiration

Sometimes we are very possessive or protective of things that tread on the lines of wickedness. We sometimes entertain ourselves with evil. We listen to music, watch movies, read books, and watch TV that glorifies wickedness. Those things will not profit us. We will not gain from them. On the other hand, righteousness will deliver us from death. Think about what in your life is wicked and what is righteous. Focus on the things that you will profit from.

Prayer

LORD, You love the righteous and You despise wickedness. Thank You for being a righteous God, and not a God who loves war, murder, and death. You are truly good, and only You can truly satisfy our hearts. Make me righteous like You are righteous. Help me to love righteousness and hate wickedness like You do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

John 7:25-26 (KJV)

Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

There is only one Messiah, Jesus

Frances Taylor

Jesus was walking around Jerusalem openly. The people knew that the Pharisees and the chief priests wanted to kill Jesus, but they couldn’t understand why they were letting him walk around still teaching. Might the rulers have changed their minds and come to believe that Jesus was the Christ? I’m sure it was a confusing time for those who had heard and seen Jesus. Do you ever wonder if you would have been a believer? I do. You know, we have centuries of fathers in faith before us. Christianity has been handed down from one generation to another since the time of the apostles. But if you’re anything like me, there have been times when you have had doubts. In fact, if you have never had doubts, then how do you know you have faith? As children, we learn about Jesus from our parents or grandparents, or others close to us, and because we trust them, we believe. As we grow older, we learn more about Jesus from many sources. Perhaps we read the Bible, or listened to or watched the evangelists on television or the radio. Maybe we went to church and listened to the preaching, but at some point, we have to make a decision. We either test out our doubts and come to a faith that is our own, or we can go along following others without an adult faith. Of course the last choice is to walk away. Just as the people of Jesus’ time had to figure it out, so do we.

Prayer

Lord, you have planted the seed of faith within us and led us to this time of decision making. As adults, may we freely choose to follow you. Amen.

Night Prayer

And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
From: Jeremiah 18:4 (KJV)

Inspiration

God made us in His image, and He rescues us in our brokenness. But He does not leave us exactly the way we found us. Instead, He works on us, with care and purpose, to reshape us into the vessels that He wants us to be. When we allow Him to work on us, He produces strength, beauty, and function in our lives.

Prayer

Father God, You are the Potter and I am the clay. Please mold me into the shape that You desire, so that I may be used for the purpose that You intend for me. Morning Prayer

Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
From: Philippians 4:20 (KJV)

Inspiration

God will have His full due from us. His glory he will not give to another. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Thy name give glory! (Psalm 115:1) Your grace on us you bestow, but your glory you will not share. Great overflowing blessings you pour down on us, but the credit for it all you jealously guard. For that is right and fitting, that you should have indeed your full due.

Prayer

Our hearts desire is to exalt you, Father, and not ourselves. Nor will we exalt any idol that would wish to take away even the least particle of your glory. For ever and ever and ever, in the realms of eternal glory, we will sing praises to your glorious name. Let us begin that song now, even today. Amen.

Jeremiah 11:18-19 (KJV)

And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

People Don’t Like To Have There Faults Pointed Out

Frances Taylor

Jeremiah was trying to do God’s work. He was charged with encouraging the people to return to God, to stop worshiping idols, to turn away from evil or they would be destroyed. So they decided to kill Jeremiah. God warned him about their plan. So appropriate that this comes as we are nearing the time when the chief priests and the Pharisees were plotting against Jesus. None of us likes to have someone point out our faults. Most of the time we don’t act out of anger, but there are times when people have actually lost their jobs or their lives for being β€œwhistle-blowers.” Jeremiah did not stop prophesizing; he continued to work at bringing the people back to God. Have you ever been in a situation where you knew there was wrong-doing, and you had to make a choice whether or not to tell those responsible about it? Knowing that there can be repercussions for acting, would we have the courage to act? It is not easy to speak truth, and yet that is what God expects from us. When we believe we need to speak truth in any situation, the first thing to do is pray, and trust that God will provide the words as he did with Jeremiah.

Prayer

O Lord, it is not easy to be your messenger in our world today. When you need me to speak your truth, be with me and give me both the courage and the ability to do so. Amen.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
From: 1 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)

Inspiration

From the ancient world to the present day, how many philosophers have come and gone? How many ideas became little more than passing trends or failed experiments? Only the wisdom that comes from God is durable and eternal. And His wisdom always proves itself superior to even the best human thinking.

Prayer

Lord, as I take in the voices and ideas around me, I am swept up in a whirlwind of information. Help me to hear Your voice over the clamor. Morning Prayer

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
From: 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

Inspiration

If we have worries that seem to press in upon us and crush us, if we are fearful about the future, or if we wonder sometimes if God really cares, this verse should be a great comfort to us. We can leave all our cares in the hands of Him who always loves us and is always looking out for our welfare.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you taught us the folly of worry when you walked among men. You showed us that if God cares for even a sparrow, He will surely take care of His children. We know that the future is in your hands and that those hands are the very ones you gave to be nailed to a cross in order to save us. We trust you with all of our cares and concerns and will not show distrust of you by worrying. Amen.

John 11:21-24 (KJV)

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

From Death to New Life

Frances Taylor

How many of us have cried out with Martha and Mary, β€œLord, if you had been there, my brother – sister, mother, father, child, friend – would not have died?” Today’s reading lets us know that Jesus was and is there when a loved one dies, and is ready to call him or her out to new life. Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. Just in case we still had doubts about the possibility of resurrection, Jesus clearly shows that all is possible. Lazarus, of course, no longer walks the earth, so he must have died again and been buried again, and this time, he awakened into eternal life, not his earthly one. And so, all of us who have been baptized into the death of Christ have been promised that we, too, would awaken into eternal life.

Mother Teresa once said that since she had died with Christ in baptism, she had nothing to fear. This gave her the courage to walk amid the streets of Calcutta helping the poor, the sick and the dying. What holds us back? What fears do we need to let die within us so that we might rise to new life? I have a fear of sounding like a fool when I don’t recognize the voice of someone I should know on the phone. But if I let that fear control me, I wouldn’t reach out to friends and family and my relationships would suffer. There are people who have such a fear of crowds that they don’t leave their homes. People who have a fear of flying miss out on seeing the magnificent beauty of our world and getting to know other cultures and historical places. Others have a fear of rejection, of being misunderstood, of being judged. In his first letter, John tells us that perfect love wipes out fear. In these last weeks of Lent, may we let the perfect love of the Lord so fill our hearts that all fear is washed away.

Prayer

O Lord, there have been many times when I wondered where you were when I needed you most! Help me to remember that you are always there answering my prayers, especially when I feel furthest from your presence. Amen.
