The Challenge of Holy Kings (entries open)

About the exercise, during the painting in the falt, I was not able to do my daily routine, but after it was finished I was also not able to pick it up properly again. So I failed there too. I did some exercise, but about half the amount I planned. So to fix this and as motivation I signed up for 2 runnning events. There are marathon runnings, but I only want to try myself on minimarathons, like 5km. I’m still overweight, don’t want to push myself too much, but I will prepare to reach the best time I can get there. Also this is my very first time to enroll in such an event, so I wanted to get accostumed to it first.
Related to this I plan to change my wake up habit. My wake up time is alway 6am. I plan to change it slightly to 5:40 to have a 20min exercise in the morning. To adjust accordingly, I plan to go to sleep at 22:30, just like you. So I still can have 7 hour sleep. I should also do the same and put away all elecric devices at 22:00, but for me it is hard. I’m thinking of picking up a habit for that period of time. Something relaxing. Like reading but only a book, or something else, that helps preparing for sleep.

Wow . I would like to join . I’m currently in a 5 day streak but I don’t know how to find my code?

Welcome!
This challenge focuses on adding good habits to your life, so I won’t track your streak and you won’t need your sharing code.

But, for future reference, here’s how to find it:

Go to the companions tab, click on the circle on the bottom right, and click on your sharing code. From there you can view, copy or edit it :+1:

I hurt my back a few days ago, so push-ups have unfortunately out of the question. I have been going on walks, though, and will progress to jogging when I get feeling better.
Putting my phone away at 10:00 has made a huge difference. I feel like I fall asleep easier.

I’m sorry to tell, that I relapsed. I let tempting toughts lurke in my mind until it made me peek and than led to relapse. Ever since my 97 day streak, I find myself at a challenging limit at around one week streak. I feel that I don’t have the dedication as before, not becauase I don’t want it, but I feel I lack energy. I want to resolve again so I will spend my weekend thinking through my goals in life. I think I lost focus on the goal and it made my path unclear.

However, good thing regarding our exercise task, that unlike last weeks, this week I was able to pick up my pace and managed to do all the exercises I planned. I runned so far 3x5km and did weightlifting. I will run 10km more and do exercises with weights and fitnessball.

Welcome to our fourth task for The Challenge of Holy Kings.

This week our focus is again on David, “a man after God’s own heart”.
David was no coward.

As a shepherd, he killed both a lion and a bear to defend his sheep.
image
Arguably the best known story in the Old Testament is David facing Goliath.
image
David is also known as the king who united the nation of Israel.
We have important lessons to learn from his mistakes, but we also have powerful lessons to learn from his strengths.
For our challenge, we will focus on one trait. It is shown in Psalm 23, written by David.
image

Another time David shows this trait is when he is speaking to Goliath: “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel… the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s”.

David trusted in God.

In order to kill the Goliaths of PMO in our lives, we must do the same. Previous tasks are still in effect. Continue to identify your strengths and weaknesses, exercise, and limit the times during which you use technology. (I want to take a second here to say that I don’t think that technology is bad, but it is important to use it properly, as a tool, as not be a slave or even mindless drone.)
This week’s task is spiritual. Set a daily spiritual goal for yourself and post it here to be accountable. For example, your goal could be: “I will pray every morning before I leave for work”. Your goal could also include scripture study, or specifics such as “I will express thanks in my prayers” or “I will ask God daily for help to be better”.
For any of you who are not religious and do not wish to try praying, an acceptable alternative is meditation and self reflection.
Remember, set a DAILY, SPIRITUAL goal and POST it here to be accountable.

Next week we will focus on one of David’s sons, Solomon; the wisest king.
Have a great week everyone!

My goal for the new task is to start every day with a prayer and finish it with another. So to start and finish my days with God. My other goal is to be more grateful, thankful for everything I receive in life. Another thing is i used to read the Bible, or daily Bible studies, but not in an organized manner, so I plan to change it to be consistent.

For the other tasks, since I still feel like I was off tuned and out of rythm, I renewed my workout and eating plan. Adjusted it to fit my current self more and make me able to change again. I felt stucked into a state I reached before.

My goal for this week is to pray daily . When I wake up to pray and before sleeping. Also working out as well. Reading easypeasy daily.

@Duran @AlexanderDaGreat I like the idea of starting the day with God through prayer :+1:

Also, I think that adjusting your exercise to meet your current abilities is a great idea. I am doing the same thing. Instead of alternating between running a mile and 100 pushups, I will walk a mile, and do yoga style stretches every other day. I’m way more out of shape than I wanted to admit :upside_down_face:

Lately most of my relapses have been shortly after I get home from work. For that reason, my spiritual goal for the week is to pray between the time I leave work and go inside my house. I will also do a daily 5 minute meditation after getting home from work.

I managed to keep my task so far on the week. Tomorrow we have a bank holiday in my country so I will have a day off from work. Free time is always risky so I try to plan it and make myself busy.
I also managed to keep my lifestyle adjustements. I found that it is good to make kegel in my car. I travel through my city and there is a few red light on the way usually, so I use those to exercise.

@Duran @AlexanderDaGreat here we go for phase 3!
Others in this challenge, remember that you can retry any challenge, but you must post at least twice to record your progress. If you miss two weeks in a row, you must restart at the beginning of the tasks.

This week, the king we will focus on is Solomon, the son of David.

He was the wisest man to ever live.
Both weeks for him will be simple and straightforward. As usual, this week will be about his weaknesses and what we can learn from them. Next week will focus on his strengths.

To illustrate Solomon’s weakness, this somewhat abridged excerpt is from the Old Testament.

“But king Solomon loved many strange women… Of the nations which the Lord said, Ye shall not go in to them…Solomon clave unto these.”
“And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines.”
“For it came to pass, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.”
“For Solomon went after the goddess of the Zidonians, and after the abomination of the Ammonites.”
“And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.”

Going after women to that extent would probably have been impossible for most of the human race. Only because he was a king did he have the ability to go so far astray.
But now, we have the internet. Turning away from God and lusting for women to the degree Solomon did is easily possible for us.

image

The story continues:
“And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God.”
“Wherefore the Lord said unto Solomon, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.”

image

“But king Solomon loved many strange women”
I searched the definition of “strange” as it was used hundreds of years ago, closer to the time of the translation. Webster’s dictionary said:
“Foreign,
belonging to others,
New; not before known, heard or seen,
causing surprise; exciting curiosity,
Odd; unusual; irregular; not according to the common way
Unacquainted”

That sure looks to me like an accurate description of pornography. Not least of them, “not according to the common way”, “unacquainted” and “exciting curiosity”.

Our task this week comes from the phrase “but king Solomon loved many strange women.”

That was his weakness that we will learn from. This week, the task has two parts. The first is:
Remove “strange women” from your life. This means to delete all accounts, apps, subscriptions etc. of pornography from your life. (Hopefully you don’t have any of these left to delete.)
The second part is to take steps to protect yourself from falling prey to this weakness. Deleting social media? Unplugging the TV? Installing an internet filter? Having a trusted friend or family member do random phone checks? Staying out of a shady part of town? As usual, set a goal for yourself, specific to your needs, and post it here. When you have followed through with the goal, post an update.

Next week we will focus on Solomon’s strength: his wisdom.

Have a great week everyone!

I already deleted all tempting files, and such. I have no registrations or subscriptions to any sites. I have fb, but I only use messenger and 2 groups on it. I have instagram, but for me, that is a private thing, which I only use to keep in touch with friends. I only follow around 50 ppl, only relatives and friends. I never used it to browse celebs or girls. However I realized that I have Tinder installed in hope of looking for a relationship. Which kind of like porn itself that merchandises people like they are some kind of stock. I didn’t browsed it that often, but I checked on it every other day. I now deleted it. I never beleived that it will bring a good relationship anyway.

My most certain weakness is my own willpower. So my goal is to strenghten it and not just avoid any temptation online, but to replace those with useful content or offline content. I plan to read more.

@Duran thank you for your diligence in keeping up with the challenge. It sounds like you are using Instagram for good use, so its good for you and I’m glad you aren’t giving that up.
I had a very bad week on all accounts, I’m sorry again for not keeping up better with my own challenge. @AlexanderDaGreat you and I are still on the week of Solomon’s weakness.
For @Duran this week, and us when we catch us, this next week is about king Solomon’s strength.

Like last week, I am going to take some quotes straight out of the Bible for king Solomon, from 2nd Chronicles.
"In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, “Ask what I shall give thee.”
And Solomon said unto God, “…give me now wisdom and knowledge… for whoso can judge this people, that is so great?”

For me, the most important thing about Solomon’s request is not what he asked for, but why. It wasn’t motivated by greed or any selfish desire. In fact, God tells king Solomon, “because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked for (selfish desires), that thou mayest judge my people… wisdom and knowledge is granted thee.”

The most recognized example of Solomon’s wisdom is when two women each claimed to be the mother of an infant. Solomon ordered that the baby be cut in two, and each women be given half. The true mother said that she was lying, to spare the baby’s life and give it to the other. The liar accepted having the proposition. Solomon was able to identify that the real mother was willing to give up her child rather than it be killed.

Various sources give different accounts of evidence of Solomon’s wisdom. In my opinion one of the most notable is the way his Kingdom prospered. It takes a wise king to run so vast a nation peacefully and into prosperity.

“And Solomon… built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities which he built in Hamath. And he built Beth-horon the upper and the nether, fenced cities with walls, gates and bars; and Baalath, and all the store cities, and all the chariot cities…”

The task this week requires more self-reflection. “Ask and you shall receive.” Identify the one attribute that will most help you overcome PMO addiction. @Duran you have mentioned willpower before. Humility, diligence, work ethic, initiative, social skills are all other examples that might help. Once you have identified what will most help you, pray and/or meditate about the attribute and identify ways in which you can strengthen and improve it. Not for selfish reasons, but as Solomon asked: humbly, with the desire to be a better person in order to properly meet life’s responsibilities. Post a goal for the week in regards to what you have thought about and decided, and focus on that this week.

Have a great week everyone!

For the first part of king Solomon’s weakness, I still have to delete an account. I set it up so it couldn’t be traced to me and didn’t even try to remember the password. Maybe because a part of me still wanted to prevent me from going back there.
So, I still need to figure out how to log in and delete the account forever, which can be some dangerous waters to swim in.

For the second part:

Honestly I’m stumped. Maybe I’m thinking too hard, or not enough, but really I can’t come up with something I haven’t already tried or am trying.
I’ll post my update when I think of something.

I had a similar issue back in July. My solution was to message my friend and let him know that I was about to log onto a PMO site for the purpose of deleting my account. That way he could keep me accountable. That was the second time I did something like that, the first time, I deleted the account while I was in the living room with friends around - no way I’m going to start watching pornography with others sitting right next to me, so that worked too.

Hope that helps to provide some ideas.
