Just talking about urges and I Just completed 90 days of No PMO

What is an urge? How is it happening? What to do about it?

In simple terms. Urge is basically our body telling us to give its daily dose…

But lets go deeper, in more complicated terms…

  1. We do something we like, dopamine releases in brain… More times we do it, more dopamine… Lets say x is the normal healthy level of dopamine to our brain, we masturbate, one day we give it some extra dopamine… Lets say x+y… We give dopamine x+y daily, x+y becomes the new normal… If we suddenly stop the dopamine, i mean suddenly quit, creates dopamine imbalance in brain, it craves for that extra dopamine we used to feed it daily… So urges kick in… If we keep resisting those urges, dopamine may drop too low and then it would take sometime to our brain to reach our normal x thats used to be there before… Hence we may feel like shit sometimes after we quit something… Thats low dopamine…
  2. Neurological pathways in brain. We do something regularly, it becomes a habit… Some pathways will form in brain. Longer we do it, stronger will be those pathways… For example, language is a pathway… We dont need to think before we speak… The words automatically form like an auto pilot… Pathways are like a map… We look at google, we wanna search for porn, we look at psiphon, we wanna look at porn, we see our genitals, we wanna masturbate… We are alone, we wanna masturbate… Why? Coz we did it thousands of times and we are habituated. Its auto pilot… It all Happens subconsciously…we did it so much that pathways are super strong…

Now…good thing about pathways is that, we can replace that with a new one… Or weaken the pathway… Takes three months though. But again, depends on person to person… Stronger the pathways, longer it takes to weaken the pathway…

Dopamine imbalance… Well, its a good thing… It means progress… Lets say we feel like shit after quitting… Well, its because brain is trying to find its natural dopamine level… Urges are a sign of it… So urges are not necessarily a bad thing… Strong Urges…feeling like shit… Weak Urges… Recovery… Being free… Thats the process… Those are the steps…

Urges makes us better… How? Imagine we resist the strongest of urge… Wouldn’t we feel confident? Unbreakable, like we defeated brock lesner in a cage match? Longer we resist, more we believe in ourselves… Confidence grows, self belief grows… If those two are growing, nothing is really impossible for us…

Also, urges are basically stepping stones to success… Imagine there is a hill where a lot of gold is buried on the top… U dont know how to get to top of it… Suddenly u see steps…so u will climb one step after the other till u reach the top… Those steps are basically our urges… We cant directly jump to the top of the hill right? Also on top of it… Without urges, what will make us stronger? How will we grow that confidence? Or belief? How else we can reclaim our life… Alright imagine no urges… We wanna stop, we stop… Then who is stopping us from reverting back to our old life again? Urges are a proof of what we conquered to be where we are… Think about it…

What I mean to say is…take urges lightly… Let it come, let it go away… When they come, lets challenge ourselves to over come them. Know that, everything is happening for our benefit… Urges are a giving us an opportunity to reclaim our life… Be strong guys!! Lets fight for our peace of minds, for our lives, for our jobs, for our happiness, for our confidence, for everything that masturbation and porn has taken away from us…
