Feed your wolves! oooo

This is an interesting story which I came across recently. Credits: Noah.B.E.Church. I have changed it a bit from original and made it more digesting. Hope you guys find it helpful.

With love and greetings BN03

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.!
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

First Lesson: The Fight is Eternal

Remember whatever you do is the result of battle of these wolves. In modern science it is battle between your LIMBIC SYS vs NEO CORTEX.

Second lesson: How to feed them

In the Cherokee world, however, there’s another version of the story and it ends this way:

The old Cherokee simply replied, “If you feed them right, they both win.” and the story goes on:
“You see, if I only choose to feed the white wolf, the black one will be hiding around every corner waiting for me to become distracted or weak and jump to get the attention he craves. He will always be angry and will always fight the white wolf.”
“But if I acknowledge him, he is happy and the white wolf is happy and we all win. For the black wolf has many qualities — tenacity, courage, fearlessness, strong-willed and great strategic thinking–that I have need of at times. These are the very things the white wolf lacks. But the white wolf has compassion, caring, strength and the ability to recognize what is in the best interest of all.”
“You see, son, the white wolf needs the black wolf at his side. To feed only one would starve the other and they will become uncontrollable. To feed and care for both means they will serve you well and do nothing that is not a part of something greater, something good, something of life.”
“Feed them both and there will be no more internal struggle for your attention. And when there is no battle inside, you can listen to the voices of deeper knowledge that will guide you in choosing what is right in every circumstance.”
“Peace, my son, is the Cherokee mission in life. A man or a woman who has peace inside has everything. A man or a woman who is pulled apart by the war inside him or her has nothing.”
“How you choose to interact with the opposing forces within you will determine your life. Starve one or the other or guide them both.”

I always thought the story ended with, “The wolf that wins is the one you feed”
I now know that that’s not incorrect, it’s just incomplete

I have never given much thought about this story until now. Now I realise I had it all wrong. I only thought of two wolves as : one who is great, honourable and good, and another who is an evil monster inside me, constantly fighting. Like one wolf, the voice of reason, tells me to stay away from porn and the other, pulls me towards it. But the dark wolf is not exactly evil, is it? It’s what I feed my wolves and when I feed them that matters. I can tame both wolves, I can guide both my animal side and human side. They are not to be fighting all the time, I just never really thought of the animal in me and have always tried to starve it. Thank you for sharing this. This gives me so much food for thought.

BTW you should not reply the link to this post, that you created, in some other active posts because i have once blocked myself doing the same😁. You should keep posting interesting stuff about nofap and gradually you will start gaining the attention.

Highly applicable in every situation in life.

The main part before feeding out wolves is recognising…

understanding and recognising when they want attention or when is the right time for a wolf to show his qualities… and if his qualities are not appreciated by the world outside…we should also k ow how to control the other wolf who would be dying to cause rage outside just because his white wolf didn’t got appreciated.

There IS no peace brother. There IS no finish line. Don’t you see? We are to find peace in the battle itself. You don’t stop improving yourself after you reach a certain level. You create, rest to admire your creations, create again. That is life. If you stop at any point, you just get run over. It’s an endless race with no finishing line and fun is in the running.

But there can be balance though, between the animal part of your body and your human side, rational part, that is my takeaway from this story.

Dude it just explains about the inner peace of one. That’s completely true fight is eternal, to attain peace one must master the way he controls his thoughts. Think of many criminals who feeds the wrong wolf ends up harming themselves and others. If there is good there is bad, if there is peace there must be war too. This is the war between your two minds. If you check out history and mythology you can notice that this war is existing for ages.

To be pricise end of war is peace.

I dont think there is two…
There is no black without white… there is no white without black and vice-versa.

Lao Tzu had said… dont give names and break universe down in different things… … The Tao is One.
By Tao he means the God. It is present equaly in dark wolf as well as white wolf…

There is Peace.
If it wasnt i wouldnt have never tried nofap in my life.

After samadhi… All Running comes to an end… samadhi is gate of heaven.
After entering heaven … There is Peace & balance.
The enlightened masters said so like gautam buddha… lao tzu… Osho… Gorakh… shiv… krishna… patanjli… etc.

Dude we are not talking about the forever silence peace ( you took it literally). We are talking about peace of mind in daily you (metaphorically). Not the end.

@Sahas By peace in my quote, I meant the way people talk about peace in real life. Comfort, or maybe equilibrium, being settled whatever you want to call it. What I meant when I said we have to find peace in the battle is the same kind of thing people mean when they say “Success is not a destination but a journey.” Such peace can never be attained by a man who is stagnant, or unwilling to be in motion. I believe such peace can only be attained through constant, continuous motion and action towards our goals, self improvement, in the process itself. There is no perfection, or finish line in the sense, I don’t believe a man should never hope for “being settled” in his life, comfortable in his existence just because he hit a certain goal. A mistake many people make and still do. I believe we have to keep running and take pleasure in that movement, not in sitting still.

Samadhi is a whole other concept, and I am not learned or experienced enough to comment on it to be honest.

You took me wrong… i am not talking about R.I.P

I am talking about inner peace while running.
A person can have inner peace while performing his duties of life.

That’s what we were saying…
